Ship Wrights Recruited?

Ship Wrights Recruited?

Dear Diary

This afternoon, as I was hopping through the meadow, I had the good fortune to run into the Beaver brothers, Baxter and Chipper. It had been a while since I’d seen them—probably not since early spring—so we sat down on a sturdy old stump and caught up. I asked how their family had been managing after the terrible flood last April that nearly wiped out their dam and lodge. Thankfully, they reassured me that all was well. They’d rebuilt stronger than ever, and their two sons were growing up fast. It felt good to hear that after all the trouble they’d been through.

As we talked, I mentioned how restless I’d been lately. After spending most of the winter snowed in, cooped up in my burrow last year, I was itching for a new adventure. I’ve been toying with the idea of building a boat and sailing south for the winter—just to shake things up a bit! The brothers thought it was a fantastic idea, but when I asked if they could help me, they both looked hesitant. They said they were swamped with work now that winter was approaching. But I reminded them how much help we gave them last year, diverting the river to save their home during the flood. That must have struck a chord because, after a bit of grumbling, they agreed to help me cut the wood for the boat.

We figured the best place to build would be in the small cave by the river. That way, we’d be protected from the weather, and it’d make launching the boat a whole lot easier. I was so excited that I rushed home straight away to start drawing up plans. I can’t wait to get started—this is going to be one grand adventure! I’ll write more soon once we begin building.

Well that is all for this exciting day.
