Thinking About Food Shortage Solutions Today
Dear Diary,
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the food shortages we’ve had over the last few winters. It’s been hard on everyone, and some of our forest neighbors are still struggling to find enough food to store away. I can’t help but worry that if we don’t do something soon, this winter could be just as tough—if not worse.
I’ve tried talking to some of the others about it, but not many seem to be paying attention yet. It’s like they’re all so caught up in the warmth of the present that they forget how harsh the cold can be. I know that gathering food now is important, but not everyone is on the same page. Some are still lazing about, while others are too proud to admit they need help.
I keep running through ideas in my head. Maybe we could form a group to start storing food together? If we work as a team, we’d have better chances of success. Or perhaps I should go around and help everyone one by one, offering tips on where to find the best berries and roots. I could even try to build a storage place where everyone could keep their food safe from the cold and predators.
I’ve also thought about encouraging everyone to plant their own little gardens, so we wouldn’t have to rely on just the wild berries and roots, but that might be too ambitious. Some of the forest creatures just aren’t the gardening type.
Still, none of these ideas feel quite right. I know I can’t do this alone, and not everyone seems interested in pitching in. But we can’t just keep doing what we’ve been doing. We need a plan—something that will really work.
I’ll keep thinking. Maybe the answer will come to me soon.
For now, the problem remains unsolved.
Until tomorrow
