Chore Day

Chore Day

Dear Diary

Today’s Saturday, and that means one thing – it’s chore day. I can’t say that cleaning my burrow or doing laundry is my favorite thing in the world, but I’ve learned something important about chores over the years: they have to get done, and if I don’t do them, no one else will.

First, there’s my burrow. It’s my home, after all. I know it’s easy to put off cleaning, but when my burrow is messy, it feels like my thoughts get messy too. Sweeping out the dirt that gets tracked in, organizing my bed of leaves, and making sure everything is tidy gives me a sense of peace. It might take some effort, but when it’s all done, I can relax knowing I’ve taken care of the space that keeps me safe and warm.

Then there’s my bed. Changing the sheets might seem like a small thing, but it makes a big difference. Fresh bedding means I sleep better, and good sleep keeps me strong and sharp for all the adventures I get into. If I don’t do it, who will? No one! Taking out the trash is the same thing. I don’t like it, but a clean burrow without old scraps of food lying around is a healthier place to live.

One of my weekly tasks is the laundry. That’s right—every Saturday, I take my three soiled green bandanas down to the stream next to my burrow. It’s not the most fun part of my day, but I love seeing them clean and bright again once they’re washed. I hang them on a low tree limb nearby, where the sun and breeze work together to dry them out. Seeing them flutter in the wind reminds me why I do it. That bandana is a symbol of my bravery, and it deserves to be clean and fresh, just like I try to keep my heart and mind.

The truth is, these chores teach me something bigger. They remind me to be disciplined, even when I don’t feel like it. They help me stay responsible and keep things in order, so I’m always ready for whatever the Whispering Woods throws at me. Without chores, the small things would pile up, and that would slow me down in the long run. Doing them is part of the adventure, too—even if it’s just the adventure of keeping my burrow in tip-top shape!

So, while I may not love washing or tidying up, I’ve come to realize that these little tasks are part of what makes me the bunny I am. They’re my way of staying strong, organized, and ready for anything.

Now, time to check on those bandanas—they should be dry by now!

  • Until next time

Benny
