Dear Diary
Today marks a milestone! My latest book, Benny and the Balloon Voyage, has just been published, and I can hardly believe it’s finally out in the world. This story has been such an adventure in itself, much like Benny’s incredible journey. I wanted to capture the thrill of discovery, the joy of new friendships, and the courage it takes to face the unknown. It took a lot of thought and reworking, especially in the final chapters, where I decided to bring in the wise turtle and the otter family to give the story a more satisfying conclusion. I think this ending gives a sense of completion while keeping the adventure alive, cutting out the raft-building detour that seemed to drag the pace a little.
I also spent a lot of time refining the illustrations for this one. Benny’s green bandana, as always, is a symbol of his bravery, but this time I feel like we see a different side of him—a more reflective and resourceful bunny as he navigates not just physical obstacles but his own feelings of doubt and worry. The Pixar-inspired style has really brought him to life again, with his light tan fur and those bright green eyes full of hope and determination. I think readers will connect with that side of Benny, especially as he learns from the otter family and befriends characters who help him get home.
It’s such a relief to see the book published after all the revisions, the changes in story direction, and, of course, those late nights figuring out the logistics of Benny’s voyage. I’m excited for readers to explore the adventure with Benny and his friends. I hope Benny and the Balloon Voyage touches hearts and inspires little ones to embrace courage, curiosity, and the unexpected detours that life can take. Now, it’s time to start thinking about what Benny’s next adventure will be!
Wel that’s all there is today,
Benny.
