Dear Diary
The cool, crisp air of fall has arrived in the Whispering Woods, and everything is changing. The once lush green trees are now ablaze with oranges, reds, and yellows, painting the forest with the colors of the season. I’ve been hopping through the woods, watching as leaves gently fall to the ground, creating a soft blanket beneath my paws. The air feels fresher, and there’s a sense of calm that comes with the season. The critters around me are busier than ever—everyone is preparing for winter, gathering food, and making their nests cozy for the long, cold months ahead. Even Charlie the Chipmunk has been stuffing his cheeks with acorns faster than I’ve ever seen!
Rocky Raccoon, our resident prankster, won’t be joining in the winter preparations this year. Raccoons tend to sleep most of the time during the cold months, conserving their energy until spring. I’ll miss his jokes and playful tricks, but I understand that this is the way nature works. Not all animals hibernate in the same way. Some, like the chipmunks, wake up occasionally to snack on their stored food, while others, like the bats and snakes, sleep through the entire winter. For me, I’ll stay active all winter long, making sure the Whispering Woods stays in good shape while Rocky takes his well-deserved rest.
Today, I spent my time canning cabbage with some of the other forest creatures. The harvest was plentiful this year, and we’ve got to make sure we have enough food to last through the winter. It’s funny to think how something as simple as cabbage can bring us together. The jars glisten in the sunlight, filled with fresh, green leaves that will keep us healthy and full during the colder months. Each one is a reminder that working together means we’ll all make it through the winter just fine.
Until next time
